Rosedale Primary School is located in the town of Rosedale, 180 kilometres east of Melbourne, in the Wellington Shire. The original school was built in 1865. In 1989 a new school was built to cater for approximately 240 children. In 2007 we had 122 students enrolled.
The school enjoys modern facilities with a withdrawal room, teacher's office, wet area and storeroom in each of the classrooms. The buildings include a computerised library, art room with dark-room, sporting complex, canteen and various offices in the administration block. The grounds feature two modern adventure playgrounds, a fitness track, sand pits, oval, cricket practice nets, rebound walls, shade areas and netball/basketball court.
The school provides high quality programs which ensure opportunities and successes for all children. There is provision of a seven year sequential education program addressing the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. The school has embraced the Victorian Early Years Literacy Program, with the Junior School staff fully trained and implementing the initiative.
The school is made up of two areas, the junior school, usually from Prep to Grade 2, and the senior school ranging from Grades 3-6. Specialist programs are offered in Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology, Visual Arts, French and Reading Recovery is provided. There has been an expansion in the use of information and learning technologies, with all classrooms having a bank of modern computers and an interactive whiteboard with access to the curriculum network and internet. In 2008 a class set of laptops is to be purchased for use across all year levels.
Comprehensive policies and programs have been developed in the areas of behaviour management, anti-bullying and student welfare, with a strong emphasis on the well-being of all children. An assertive discipline approach encourages all children to take responsibility for their own behaviour, and is implemented effectively throughout the school.
The School Council is actively involved in decision making and policy development. Parent involvement and participation in a variety of school activities, is a significant feature of the school that is actively encouraged and greatly valued. The Parents Club play a major role in fundraising, and provide valuable support in a variety of areas. The entire school community work closely together to ensure positive outcomes, and help celebrate the many successes in all areas.

In 2005 we completed our School Self Evaluation and our School Strategic Plan 2006-2009. Our strategic intent and goals are:
- To improve the student outcomes in reading and writing P-6.
- To improve student performance outcomes in numeracy P-6.
- To improve student outcomes across the curriculum by the development of enhanced ICT skills across most curriculum areas.
- To improve student outcomes by focusing on the engagement of students particularly in the areas of motivation, connectedness, and self esteem and with a strong focus on engaging boys in their learning.
- To improve student literacy outcomes by exploring ways of working with the local pre-school (kindergarten) in order to jointly seek ways to enhance the literacy skills of children entering school.
